River City Cinema summer movie series posters
River City Cinema (RCC) was integral in reviving Downtown Bangor’s cultural scene. Beginning in 2004, with the help of local sponsors and hard-working volunteers, it brought alfresco films to Pickering Square, a location that was the bane of the city for years. Drawing up to 500 moviegoers of all ages and backgrounds at a time, it set the stage for many other cultural goings-on in this, the third largest city in Maine. Drawing inspiration from historical movie advertisements, I designed posters and handbills that were posted all over the Bangor region.

To raise money, River City Cinema launched a “Put on the Nose and Pose” campaign for its 2005 summer series. Business owners and other community members donned funny glasses, toked on chocolate cigars and mugged for the camera. The photos were inserted into the posters, the poser got one copy, and another was posted in various storefronts in Downtown Bangor. It was a huge success, bringing in RCC extra dollars, as well as publicity, for the series.

American Magic-Lantern Theater projects
In 2006, River City Cinema brought Terry Borton and his American Magic-Lantern Theater to Bangor, Maine. I designed a poster for the Halloween show, and soon after the performance I received and email from Mr. Borton saying, “I was very much impressed with your poster. Of all the posters we’ve collected over the last 15 years, including those of our own design, I think yours does the best job of communicating what we are about. I’d like to use it as the basis for a revision of our poster graphics, and hire you to do that.”
I was commissioned to design posters for his various show themes. The high resolution images, pictured below, were embedded into Microsoft Word documents with space below the image for bookers to insert their event details.
